WHAT’S ON – APRIL 2025

The Woodland Trust’s Spring’s Vital Signs initiative is coming to a close for 2025. This citizen science project tracks signs of spring to understand how climate change is shaping the seasons. Participants log the first time they observe certain seasonal events, such as spotting frogspawn, hearing a song thrush, or seeing blackthorn blossom, helping to paint a picture of seasonal trends across the UK.

The final date for submissions is April 21. Sign up on the Woodland Trust website.

World Creativity & Innovation Day (April 21)
World Creativity and Innovation Day celebrates creativity in all forms and aims to raise awareness of its role in all aspects of human development. This includes the creative industries, which, according to the United Nations, are among the most dynamic sectors in the world economy, providing new opportunities for developing countries to leapfrog into emerging high-growth areas of the world economy.

Earth Day (April 22)
“We need people power to support the big switch to renewable energy,” says Kathleen Rogers, President of Earth Day Organization (EDO). “We encourage everyone to talk to your local mayor, boss, neighbours, community leaders, and local and national legislators to explore and champion the transition to renewables.”

The Earth Day 2025 theme, ‘Our Power, Our Planet’, calls for global unity in supporting renewable energy. Join in by taking action – organise or attend events like beach cleanups, write to your MP, or explore smart energy choices for your family. Find more ideas and resources on the Earth Day website.

Fashion Revolution Week (April 22 – 27)
Fashion Revolution, the world’s largest fashion activism movement, is calling for an end to human and environmental exploitation in the global fashion industry. This year’s Fashion Revolution Week theme is ‘Think Globally, Act Locally.’

“Individual efforts, when multiplied by tens and hundreds and thousands of people, create powerful movements that cannot be ignored. We need to focus and streamline our vast network of voices to change the very rules the fashion industry plays by”, says Fashion Revolution, a nonprofit organisation.

Mend in Public Day, part of Fashion Revolution Week, is a protest against disposable fashion, encouraging people to repair and reuse clothing to challenge the industry’s culture of excess. It takes place on April 26.

Stop Food Waste Day (April 30)
A day of global action in the fight against food waste. Share your food-waste-reduction tips and recipes on social media with #StopFoodWasteDay.
