WHAT’S ON – NOVEMBER 2024

Buy Nothing New Month
Could you buy nothing new for just one month?
Keep Britain Tidy urges us to waste less, make the most of what we already own and cut our carbon footprint by buying nothing new – excluding essentials like food and medicine.

The campaign is part of a global movement to reduce consumption and create a circular economy. It is held alongside Buy Nothing Day on November 29, which coincides with Black Friday.

Anti-Bullying Week (November 11-15)
The theme for this year’s Anti-Bullying Week is ‘Choose Respect’. Odd Socks Day, on Tuesday November 12, is an opportunity to celebrate uniqueness and individuality by wearing odd socks.

World Kindness Day (November 13)
World Kindness Day aims to make kindness a more significant part of everyday life. The School of Kindness (part of the 52 Lives charity) is leading the charge with free virtual assemblies for primary schools and a World Kindness Day Pack filled with activities to help children focus on kindness. Its Kids’ Kindness Club is full of tips, challenges and competitions.

World Philosophy Day (November 21)
“By awakening minds to the exercise of thinking and the reasoned confrontation of opinions, philosophy helps to build a more tolerant, more respectful society.” – UNESCO.
World Philosophy Day is a collective exercise in free, reasoned and informed thinking. It takes place each year on the third Thursday of November.

National Tree Week (November 23 – December 1)
Each year, the conservation sector, volunteer groups and tree lovers come together to plant thousands of trees as part of the UK’s largest celebration of trees. If you’d like to get involved, there are resources and an interactive map of tree activities on the Tree Council website.
